A couple of months ago Kim and I decided to do a marathon mania family meeting/visiting extravaganza over Spring Break. But I don’t mean marathon like it took a long time… because it all fit inside of Spring Break. I mean marathon like a lot of miles of traveling. But marathon isn’t even a good word because there are only 24 miles of traveling in marathons, and we went something like 40 or 70 thousand million miles. I can’t remember the exact number. So take marathon out of the initial title of our trip.
Anyways, I have been looking for a ring since approximately Novemberish. In recent months I became much more serious about my search and started to narrow things down. A couple of weekends ago I managed a covert meeting with her dad and mom to ask for their blessing on it all. I figured I would do that and wait a few months for the actual proposal. Well, once I got the ring I realized I wasn’t as capable of holding onto it as I thought I would be.
OK, back to the marathon mania family meeting/visiting extravaganza. I decided this would be a good time to give Kim the ring and also to ask her to marry me at the same time. I knew I couldn’t wait until the middle of the trip, because the family who we saw at the beginning of the trip would be upset they didn’t get to see the ring. So I decided to do it on Friday (3.5) when we were on the way down. I didn’t want it to be built up or expected, I wanted spontaneity and surprise. So I had no set plan… I was just waiting for the right time. I spent all day trying to spot the perfect area. But gas stations and rest stops were all I saw. We were about two hours from our destination and I was getting a little uneasy… I hadn’t found anything worthy. I then remembered a pier overlooking the lake my grandparents lived on. I decided that would be good. I asked her, she said yes, and now I’m engaged to marry the girl who puts the imaginary girl of my dreams to shame. And I thought my imaginary girl of my dreams was awesome. Kim has so much more than I ever even knew I wanted. And we’re getting married. Yes.

Last Friday (3.5) Caleb and I began our Spring Break Road Trip. Our first destination was Winter Garden, Florida, to visit Caleb’s grandparents. It was almost 9:00 and we were about to turn onto Surprise Drive, the road right before their house. Caleb told me that he wanted to go out on the pier looking over Lake Apopka before we went inside. We parked in front of the lake and started walking towards the pier. Ever since Caleb got his new camera for Christmas I have tagged along for scenic photo shoots. He had his camera and tripod with him and I assumed he wanted to take some cool lake pictures. I had to go to the bathroom and as we were walking up the pier I gave him a hard time about bringing his camera and told him that we could take pictures later. When we got to the pier I had my hands in my pockets and really had to go to the bathroom. I asked him if we could turn around and come back the next night. He said “Yes we can come back tomorrow night, but…” I said “but what?” The next couple of minutes are a blur. He took my hand out of my pocket, got down on one knee, put a gorgeous ring on my finger, and asked me to marry him. I was so shocked and asked him if he was serious and if “this was really happening.” He said yes and then reminded me that I hadn’t answered him yet. I said YES and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend, Caleb Douglas Knight, the most amazing man ever that God has blessed me beyond belief with.
